Harry Potter
The Harry Potter series follows a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley across seven years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as they uncover the truth about Harry’s past and face the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. Written by J.K. Rowling, it spans seven books and eight films.
The four Hogwarts houses
Every Hogwarts student is sorted into one of four houses by the Sorting Hat, each founded by one of the four medieval witches and wizards who created the school. Each house prizes different traits and has its own common room, colours and animal.
The Sorting Hat reads a student’s mind — weighing their values, fears and desires — but a student’s own wishes matter too. When Harry silently begged “not Slytherin,” the Hat honoured it.

The main characters
The story centres on a trio of friends. Harry Potter is “the Boy Who Lived,” the only person to survive Voldemort’s Killing Curse. Hermione Granger is the brilliant, Muggle-born heart of the group. Ron Weasley is Harry’s loyal best friend from a large wizarding family.
They are guided by Albus Dumbledore and opposed by Lord Voldemort, born Tom Riddle, who murdered Harry’s parents. Severus Snape — cruel on the surface, secretly protecting Harry out of lifelong love for his mother Lily — is the saga’s most debated figure.

Every spell that matters
Spells are cast by speaking an incantation, usually rooted in Latin, while pointing a wand. They range from everyday charms like Lumos to the three Unforgivable Curses — the darkest magic in the wizarding world, each carrying a life sentence in Azkaban.

What are the Deathly Hallows?
The Deathly Hallows are three legendary objects that together are said to make their owner the “Master of Death”: the Elder Wand (the most powerful wand ever made), the Resurrection Stone (which can recall the dead) and the Cloak of Invisibility.
The quest to understand and unite them drives the final book, and their symbol — a triangle, circle and line — becomes central to the story’s ending. Harry owned the Cloak, inherited from his father, for the entire series without knowing what it was.

Voldemort never rode the Hogwarts Express
Tom Riddle arrived at Hogwarts by boat from the orphanage, and later travelled by other means. The Express was never his.
Snape’s first words to Harry were a coded apology
Fans decoded “asphodel + wormwood” as “I bitterly regret Lily’s death” in Victorian flower language — a confession hidden in a Potions question.
Dumbledore has four first names
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Rowling has said she simply liked the sound of a grand, slightly absurd string of names.
Hedwig was Harry’s first-ever gift
Hagrid bought her for Harry’s eleventh birthday — the first present anyone had given him in his life.
Nagini was once a woman
She was a Maledictus, a woman under a blood curse that eventually trapped her in the body of a snake permanently.
Harry owned a Deathly Hallow the whole time
The Invisibility Cloak, inherited from his father, was a true Hallow — and he carried it for six books without knowing.

The famous “Rondore” theory points to Ron’s Chocolate Frog card ambition, his skill at chess, and Dumbledore’s line about seeing “a pair of thick, woollen socks” in the Mirror of Erised.
